Dr. Brian Armitage
On April 1, 2004, I became the proud owner of Baymeadows Vision Center (originally known as Coastal Vision Center). Prior to acquiring Baymeadows Vision Center, I spent 16 years with VISTAKON ® (a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc in Jacksonville) as worldwide head of clinical research. I worked closely with patients and clinical optometrists in the evaluation of many new contact lens products that are currently being marketed to you.
Prior to my career with Johnson & Johnson, I worked in an optometric practice in Ohio (similar to Baymeadows Vision Center) working with patients of all ages and all types of ocular conditions
I received my Doctor of Optometry and Master of Science degrees at Ohio State University followed by a two year Contact Lens Residency Program. I am also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Board Certified Optometric Physician. In 2008 I was appointed as Assistant Clinical Professor of Optometry for The Ohio State University. In this role 4th year optometry students spend 3 months of their last year of school training in my office.
To continually enhance the quality of our professional practice, Baymeadows Vision Center integrates up-to-date technology and treatments. Some of the new and innovative technologies we are now utilizing include:
- Corneal Refractive Therapy – an alternative to refractive surgery and can eliminate the need for day time contact lenses or glasses
- RTA 5 Retinal Exam – Painlessly and quickly captures digital images of your retina usually without the need for dilating drops and the blurred vision after effects.
- SynergEyes Hybrid Contact Lens. This lens combines the best of both worlds: the comfort of a soft lens and the crisp, clear vision of a gas permeable (hard) lens!!!
- Computer assisted refraction to more efficiently and effectively determine your prescription for glasses
- Computer assisted non-contact tonometer with the gentlest “air puff” in the industry
- Threshold visual field testing for glaucoma evaluation and treatment

Iris Alamo- Optician (Frame and Lens Specialist) and Technician
Iris is an Optician and Optometric Technician who began her career over 30 years ago in New York. The experiences learned throughout her career enable Iris to expertly perform many of our optical functions. She will help you find the right frame for your style, teach you how to put contacts on your eyes, and schedule your next appointment. Iris’s goal is for you to have a positive and rewarding optical experience during every office visit.
Linda King- Finance Manager
Linda is responsible for all financial aspects of the practice. Her financial expertise spans nearly a 20 year timeframe. She oversees all the filings for insurance claims and patient billing. Linda ensures that our bills and business payroll are completed accurately and timely. Her attention to detail, business knowledge and financial expertise are valuable assets to our practice. Linda’s husband, Jack King, was the original founder of this Vision Center in 1986.
Joyce St. Germain- Optometric Technician
Joyce has been an optometric technician for 15 years starting her career in the Chicago area. In addition to her technician duties she is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the office staff, developing and modifying office processes to increase office efficiency, and for coordinating all contact lens research studies. She works closely with our patients because of her extensive knowledge and dedication to the patient needs.
Desma Bowers- Front Desk Coordinator
Desma is usually the very first voice you hear when calling our office for an appointment. Desma has over 5 years experience in the eye care industry and began her career in Tennessee. She is responsible for scheduling your appointments and greeting you when you arrive at our office. If your glasses need adjusting or you need some help picking out some cool frames, Desma is always available to help. She will always make you feel welcome at our office.
